New Cantharellus Species Discovered in China’s Dabie Mountains
Two new Cantharellus fungi identified and one species’ range extended into Anhui Province.
Researchers described two previously unknown species in the genus Cantharellus, which includes popular edible chanterelles, and expanded its documented distribution within central China. In a paper appearing in volume 141 of MycoKeys, Hang Chu, Yong‑lan Tuo, Bo Zhang, and Xiao Li reported 16 specimens collected from the Dabie Mountains. The study used detailed macroscopic observation and multigene phylogenetic analyses of nrLSU, rpb2, and tef1-α to recognize two novel species, C. armeniacus and C. cremeus. 1.net]
In addition, the authors recorded C. curvatus as a new provincial record for Anhui Province, extending its known range, and also documented the occurrence of C. phloginus there. The publication provides full morphological descriptions, high-resolution photographs, and taxonomic discussions that aid future field identification and ecological studies. 1.net]
